She has worked in hospital medicine, primary care, and international settings. She is a part-time associate professor of family and community medicine at UCSF's Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency program.

Prior to becoming a doctor, she was an out of hospital midwife for over a decade — work which continues to inform her work in both medicine and SE. She has an MA in Divinity, with a focus on Christian mysticism; she has been adjunct faculty at several universities, and has taught philosophy, comparative religion, and ethics.

She has done extensive work with refugees and survivors of torture, including more than ten years of leading a weekly therapy group for village women who survived the Cambodian genocide.

She is certified in Healing Touch, Reiki, Regenesis, NAET, and homeopathy. She also facilitated groups at the Center for Attitudinal Healing in northern California, and in Alaska.

Lucia is a mom and grandmother who has homesteaded off the grid in Trapper Creek, Alaska, raising dogs and kids, splitting logs, carrying water. Her youngest son was born on the homestead. She and the whales migrate between California and Alaska, and she visits other states that whales don't yet live in!

Lucia has frequently given talks to community and professional groups, and is available as a public speaker on a variety of topics.
